Important Elder Announcement

On Sunday August 13th, Brad shared about Casey Samulski being in the final phase of the eldership process as we seek to discern adding him to the elder team alongside Jeff, Chris, and Brad. We used the opportunity to briefly share what the elders do, what the process is like, and what we’re looking for in terms of feedback.

We also talked about the importance of accountability and how allegations against elders and leaders are dealt with in our church. If you missed, make sure you listen to what Brad shared. Also, please read what’s shared below about the elder team, process, and accountability.

Wait, What is an Elder?

What do elders do? What is the role they play within the body? How is an elder team different from a c-suite executive team? How does someone become an elder? These are important questions and the answers aren’t secret. You can read on all of that in this article we’ve made public. It speaks volumes and is really important as we strive to be faithful to Jesus as the King of the Kingdom, Head of the Church, and Power in our Weakness.

Feedback on Casey

Please use this article as a reference for what the qualifications of an elder are and think about Casey’s life. When you look at these qualifications think in terms of “what is Casey famous for?” or known for. Casey isn’t perfect, but does he consistently display these character traits by God’s power and grace. We would love feedback. Please email or call any elder about encouragements, questions, or concerns as you read these qualifications.

Highly Attempted Safety and Accountability

Finally, we used this opportunity to respond to a question we received recently about accountability within our church and leadership structures and what avenues the body has in bringing accusations or allegations about an elder who may not be meeting the qualifications set out in the Scriptures. Is there a process for that? Yes. As members of the Soma Family of Churches we have adopted the process they’ve laid out that guides us through through accusations and offers pathways for people in our church to reach out to area and national leaders with concerns if they’re not being addressed within our church. You can see the entire process we’re submitted to here as our goal is to create a body with highly attempted safety.
